Mega have
Five Polo Boats in ascending size to fit a polo player according to their
size. We call this the Evolution Series.
Mega is
the only manufacture in the world to have such an extensive range of sized polo boats
to cater for most shape and size of player.
They have additionally, all been approved by the BCU Canoe Polo Committee's
Boat Checking Panel as conforming to the Current ICF Boat Specifications,
which is a pre-requisite for use in British Polo. |

Mega
Evolution - typically for the smallest of players up to 65 Kgs
 | 52 cm wide |
 | 276cm long |
This is probably
the smallest boat specifically designed to comply with the ICF Canoe Polo Boat Specification and
specifically targeted for the growing market of small players.
This boat is the best way
for small paddlers to learn all kayaking skills in a boat which is easiest
to control.
Most decent spraydeck
manufacturers know about the Evolution - it has a slightly smaller cockpit
than most other polo boats, so getting a deck to fit well shouldn't be a
problem - especially if you order it through Clyde's Polo Kit ! A C1 Deck
would probably also fit.
This boat was
designed with GB's Neil Parker in mind. He spent quite a bit of time in it
before moving up to the Mystere - no looking back now !

Mr Ling has bigger muscles now ! |
Mega XCell -
typically for players up to 75 Kgs
 | 52 cm wide
|
 | 278 cm long |
For paddlers a little too big for the Evolution
and for those who have a good sense of balance, this boat provides fantastic
acceleration with effortless turning. Again a great boat to learn the basic
kayaking skills so essential to our sport. The narrow width helps with the
sprinting, while the curved sides not only allow a player to maintain their
own balance as far as they are able but also assists in the overall strength
of the kayak.

This is the boat that
helped GB's Darren Ling learn to turn having initially come from a Felix,
then Revenge. After a couple of seasons with Stubbers, then Meridian in the
XCell, he went on to use the Mystere.

Mega VelociT
- typically from players up to 85 Kgs
 | 56 cm wide
|
 | 292 cm long |
This is actually the latest boat to be
added to the fleet, and
will suit the majority of paddlers due to it's overall size. This was widely
known as the cut down Raptor from which it came, although there are several
other major performance related changes to make it a great all-rounder polo
boat.
The low deck
allows a snug fit and great bow control whether you want to take it over or
under an opponents boat.
This is becoming Mega's fastest selling new comer
as it appeals to most paddlers.

This is Clyde on top of Darren
Ling - good job he's got all the extra width of the Mystere to keep him
above water ! |
Mega Raptor
- typically for players up to 95 Kgs
 | 57.5 cm wide
|
 | 293 cm long |
This one was designed with Clyde in mind. He
wanted an easier boat to turn than the Mystere but with good overall
sprinting speed. Unlike the Mystere it also allows the paddler to bend the
knees upright slightly to allow a greater ability to brace and thus control
the extent of balance.
All the above
boats in the Evolution Series have rounded sides as opposed to flat ones
like you get in slalom based designs. This provides increased strength in
the prominent impact areas from Kayak Tackles and it's this shape which is
the fundamental advantage in maintaining balance to the ability of the
paddler - rather than relying solely on the width of the boat.

This is also Clyde in days
gone by while in a Mystere - again always trying to stay on top ! |
Mega Mystere
- currently the largest boat Mega produces for use in Canoe Polo.
 |
60 cm wide
|
 |
300 cm long |
This was Mega's first
introduction to Canoe Polo and since 1996 has proven to be a very popular
model. The boat was first produced in Ireland in 1993 and by arrangement is
produced by Mega.
This boat takes it's shape
from a classic slalom boat which assists the great sprinting speed, however
it takes some learning to turn it fast.
At a glance it fits the same general
look of a slalom based polo boat like the Revenge and Combat, but with lower
front volume and rocker which assist some way to controlling the front end
when turning.
This is the only
polo boat that Mega produces with a standard "keyhole" cockpit. So you order
a standard K1 spraydeck for this.
This is widely
regarded as the fastest sprinting polo boat from a slalom boat origin.
Designed initially by Mark
Downey and brought up to spec by Mega |
Currently there are no ICF Boat checking facilities.
However, here in Britain, our British Canoe Union Canoe Polo Committee have a
strict Boat Checking Procedure which is carried out in a very professional manor
to the current ICF Boat Specifications. All boat designs (including those from
overseas) used in Britain in our
National Leagues have to be approved by the Boat Checking Panel prior to being
sold for use here.
All the Mega Polo
boats have been checked by the BCU Canoe Polo Committee's Boat checking Panel.
None of them passed first time without any minor modification - that's an
indication of how tough and rigid the testing criteria is.
